Reimagining the Roles of Nature-based Teachers

In January 2025 Samara’s found Dr. Rachel Larimore and her colleague Dr. Claire Warden presented this webinar for the Natural Start Alliance focused on Reimagining The Role of Teachers.

During the webinar, Rachel and Claire shared wonderful insights and advice about how educators can not only identify, but also embody their many roles when incorporating nature in their pedagogy.

The conversation centered around the content of their latest book Reimagining The Role of Teachers in Nature-Based Learning: Helping Children be Curious, Confident, and Caring.

This new resource is designed for early childhood educators--including infant, toddler, preschool, and elementary providers--interested in more intentional use of nature in their teaching.

In the book, they describe many roles teachers play when implementing nature-based strategies, and explore the research and theory behind each role, specific language or behaviors of each role in practice, and questions to help educators reflect on their practice.

If you’re curious to learn even more about the roles we discuss in the webinar, grab a copy of Reimagining The Role of Teachers in Nature-Based Learning: Helping Children be Curious, Confident, and Caring. If you’re in the U.S., you can order here. For those outside of the U.S., find your options for ordering here.

The primary theme of both the webinar and the book is that you play many very important roles in children’s lives and the implementation of nature-based pedagogy. Thank you for continuing to support young children and connect them with nature!
