In this final episode of our mini-series around time allotments in our daily schedules, Rachel builds upon previous discussions of whole-group activities and free play.

Rachel asks listeners to analyze their notes to determine if time spent in both whole-group activities and free play aligns with their program's goals and philosophy.

[If you haven't listened to episodes 8 and 9, it’s encouraged that you to do that first, for context.]

As you examine your notes from the last two weeks, ask yourself if you’re satisfied with the balance of free play versus whole-group time. Does your practice reflect the core values of your program? Ask yourself what barriers exist. For example, if you have mandatory transitions or scheduled activities that limit your outdoor time, what solutions might exist?

Even a small increase could lead to noticeable improvements. The primary goal is to align your teaching practices with your program philosophy, fostering children’s exploration and learning with nature. And keep in mind that teaching isn't about achieving a perfect balance—it's about being intentional with your choices.
